6 Backyard Ideas for Fall
Backyard Ideas For Fall
It's safe to say that Fall is officially upon us. The leaves have started to change, the sun sets a little earlier and the air feels a little crisper. So how can you enjoy the outdoors a little longer despite all of these changes? Here are some ideas to help along the way.
1. Use Plants to Your Advantage
Did you know that herbs not only smell lovely, they can also be natural mosquito repellents? It's true! Herbs like thyme, oregano and mint also repel mosquitoes, and that's a good thing because we know that those little buggers will stick around as long as possible!
2. More Than Just Hot Water
Boil some water in your BLACK+DECKER kettle and bring it outdoors for some hot chocolate, tea or some mulled spices! With the water in a thermos, you don't need to go in and out for refills.
3. Solar-Powered Lighting to The Rescue!
These days the solar-powered lighting options are endless! Lanterns, candles, and post lights for your deck or fence are wonderful for helping you to get around in the evenings as well as helping to set a cozier mood! Post lighting is easy to attach to just about any surface and lanterns are light and can either be hung or placed on any flat surface.
4. String Lights Aren't Just for Your Christmas Tree!
There is a huge selection of outdoor lighting for you to choose from, and you wouldn't believe the amount of actual light they provide! Now you won't even notice that the sun is going down a little earlier because you can just turn the lights on and enjoy their glow a little longer!
5. Bring The Comfort of The Indoors Out
Think about creating a little reading nook for yourself. Bring out a few snacks, some comfy pillows and blankets. Using a large basket for pillows and blankets makes storage nice and easy. You can easily leave them in a garden shed or bring them indoors.
Poufs and foot stools make a corner like this extra cozy! They’re light and also make for great additional seating. Now imagine yourself here: feet up, blanket over your feet and your favorite book. Sounds heavenly, right?
This is also a perfect opportunity for you to create either a calming space with monochromatic colours or spice things up with warm reds to match the leaves on the trees.
6. Fire Pits Will Keep You Warm
With a small fire pit (which you can DIY), you can enjoy those chilly nights a lot more! A fire pit like this one which doubles as a table is great because you can simply remove the top and start your fire - wood will stay dry in there as long as the top is on! For extra firewood, consider repurposing a magazine rack. Carrying the wood is easy and it looks pretty good in your outdoor living space, too!
Creating a space that you can enjoy, even as the Fall weather cools down a little, requires just a bit of effort and the payoff is wonderful. You'll be so glad when you get to enjoy family time by a cozy fire with blankets and hot drinks in hand!
